Hyderabad: Food Safety Officers Conduct Raids; Cockroach Infestations, Houseflies Found in Kitchen

Raids on hotels, restaurants, and hostels have become a new norm in Telangana, particularly in Hyderabad.
The Food Safety Department has become a thorn in the flesh for restaurants and hotels serving food in unhygienic conditions in the city.
Several popular restaurants have been found serving food prepared with expired products and not following food safety rules.
Recently, the task force team from the Telangana Food Safety Department has conducted raids on different restaurants in Hyderabad, including Nandini Cafeteria and Yagnesh Virat fast food, Raghavendra Bakery and Fast Food, MG Bus Station, and Stall no.24 at MG Bus Station.
Food officers have found a refrigerator in unhygienic condition, usage of Synthetic food colours observed in Chinese items, cockroach infestation, and other issues.
Also, Raghavendra Bakery failed to provide medical fitness certificates and pest control records to the task force team.
Similarly, at Yagnesh Virat Food Court, MG Bus Station, food officers found several violations, including hovering of houseflies inside the kitchen.
Some of the other violations found at other hotels include dustbins found overflowing, identification of cobwebs, windows not fitted with insect-proof screens, washroom doors found open, and people handling food were found without hair caps, among others.
